In October of 2007, North Curry Families' and Children's Center applied for a license from the Federal Communications Commission for a full-power non-commercial FM radio station. We are currently waiting for the FCC to make a decision on our application. Though the FCC's timetable is a thing of mystery, it appears likely that a construction permit will be granted sometime in the next year. When that happens, we will have three years to build a station and begin broadcasting.
Community radio is media for the people and by the people. We plan to build a vibrant organization that provides quality programming which our community can use and enjoy. We will give voice to the interesting and positive things that are happening in our listening area, from Humbug Mountain to the mouth of the Coquille. We will strive to add reliable information and respectful dialogue to the issues that confront us all. Local musicians and inspired dj's will share their musical talent and knowledge. The 2CJ School Board has approved making broadcasting part of the Pacific High School curriculum, and we look forward to including students as an integral part of the radio day. We imagine shows that meet many community needs, from 'Scroungarama', the show that helps us all re-use and recycle, to announcements that help us find health care, child care, and transportation resources, to spoken word shows that entertain and encourage literacy.
This is just the beginning vision. We welcome your ideas, creativity, and committed participation.
While we wait for our license, this website will keep you posted on our progress. We plan to begin streaming locally produced audio soon. Please check back often to see what's up and how you can get involved.
Our engineer prepared a map of the listening area as part of the FCC application. You can access this map by clicking here.
